The iSimangaliso Wetland Park (Greater St Lucia Wetland Park) has an astonishing variety of habitats that range from the Lebombo Mountains to the Indian Ocean and include grasslands, forest, massive stretches of beach and offshore coral reefs. The largest estuary in southern Africa is a 38 000 hectare expanse of tidal and semi-tidal water. Some ancient creatures have been calling it home for around 140 million years - here you will find fossils, pectin clams, fossilized worm burrows and the rare 'fossil' fish, the coelacanth, a two meter long fish thought extinct!
